Baby 2 Gender Reveal

Have you heard the news? We had our gender reveal for Baby number 2 and we were in for quite the surprise! For me, I was team “whatever’s in there”! I had high hopes for both, whether that meant staying a girl mom or having one of each gender.

My husband, on the other hand, had been praying NIGHTLY from the moment I told him we were pregnant again that God would grant us a boy. He was Team Blue all the way. Honestly, most of the family showed up to the reveal wearing blue, too! I think aside from the symptoms that matched the old wives tales, most of our family were just hoping wanting to add another boy to the family. But I’m sure whatever the results were, everyone would be happy in the end!

We spent the afternoon playing old wives tale games to try to guess the gender before the big reveal. I took the early NIPT blood test to detect any genetic abnormalities, which also provided the gender of our baby so early. We did everything from sitting on spoons, to hanging wedding rings over my belly. I even did a urine test mixing it with cabbage juice to try to detect what our baby’s gender would be. At the end of the afternoon, after all of our old wives tale predictions… it came to a close tie between a boy and girl.

Finally, it was time to reveal the gender. After I got my results in from my NIPT test, I gave them to my brother. He was the designated keeper of the gender and was in charge of the big reveal. And it was BIG! He brought in a big black balloon to conceal the confetti color on the inside, and gave a couple of family members confetti cannons. My husband and I were a little hesitant to do the reveal inside because I knew the confetti would cause a huge mess on the floor and my husband is a bit of a neat freak. My brother assure to us that we HAD to do it inside because the sunlight outside would probably reveal the color through the balloon. (If you’re reading this and shaking your head in confusion… don’t worry, I’m with you!) So ultimately we all agreed to hold the reveal inside. On the count of 3, it was time to pop the balloon… and the gender of baby 2 turned out to be…

…A GIRL!!! A GIRL WITH A LOT OF POWDER APPARENTLY! My brother didn’t realize that the confetti cannons also came with PINK POWDER and it shot EVERYWHERE! After our initial shock of the actual gender, everyones eyes took an immediate turn to the ceiling. There was a HUGE pink burst mark from the popper and pink powder all over the ceiling, walls, beams, baseboards, counters, chairs, THE FOOD, our clothes, our hair. EVERYWHERE! It was hilarious and definitely a memorable moment for all of us! An unforgettable gender reveal!

Were there tears? Not this time! Although you could tell from my husband’s face that we was a little disappointed. To which I had to remind him that all of the fun “father son” activities he wanted to do in life, he could certainly do with his daughters! He was really big on wanting to bring his son to Jiu Jitsu, but guess what? Our girls can do that, too! I think another funny and ironic statement he made was that of the Garza family name coming to an end with him. He stated that one of our girls will just have to keep her last name when she marries in the future. Odd – because he was so adamant about me changing my last name when we got married! At the end of the day, he got REALLY excited about being a girl dad!

Now on to baby 2’s name! Well, we didn’t have one picked out. HA! We were all so sure that baby 2 would be a boy that we only had a boy name picked out! We hadn’t even considered girl names at the time. Or at least, we weren’t set on one just yet. But immediately after letting everyone know that we didn’t have a name for a girl picked out, nearly all of our family suggested we leave the name we already had for what we thought would have been a boy… for our girl. I still asked for suggestions on Instagram just in case we weren’t set on a name just yet. However, the more we said the name we originally chose out loud, the more it fit. So it’s decided. We have a name!

Just not ready to share it QUITE yet. But I hope to share it soon!

We continue to ask for your prayers in this pregnancy for a safe and healthy pregnancy and delivery! And I can’t wait to share more details about what has happened in these past few months!

Un Besito,
