Holiday Traditions To Start Right Now

My husband and I are in our 3rd year celebrating the holidays together, and 2nd celebrating with a baby and as a family of 3. We’ve been talking about different traditions we want to adopt so I thought I’d share a few with you today! It’s never too late to start a new tradition. If any of these sound fun or special to you, go ahead and take it!

  • New Christmas Ornament – This is something we started when Lance and I met! We even got a new ornament for Penelope this year!
  • Gingerbread house decorating night – make it a challenge and showcase them when you’re done!
  • Open one special gift on Christmas Eve – I’ve been doing this since I was a little girl!
  • Nativity moving – Every Sunday during the Advent Season, move Mary and Joseph (and the wise kinds too if you have them) around the house until Christmas Day where they all meet together!
  • Visit a Tree Lighting Ceremony – There’s something special about countdowns
  • Have a hot cocoa and Christmas movie night! – I’m doing these weekly!
  • Write Christmas Cards – yes… write! Pen a special note and have everyone in the family sign it before sending it off to friends and family!
  • Give back! Put together a few gifts to those less fortunate during this holiday season so they are also able to feel the spirit of Christmas.
  • Special gift from Jesus – Hear me out… this is something my mom actually started for us! Yeah, kids are always looking forward to gifts from Santa… but my mom would write us notes and leave it at the nativity where baby Jesus could be found. The notes would be written “by Baby Jesus himself”, reminding us of the true meaning of Christmas. This note would then have clues to a special scavenger hunt where we’d have to run around the house to find the special gift from Jesus.
  • Go Christmas Caroling – We started visiting New Orleans’ Caroling in Jackson Square a few years ago and look forward to it every year!
  • Christmas Books! – Read a different story or book every night! There are HUNDREDS of books tied to Christmas! This one is our favorite!
  • Bake and/or decorate Christmas Cookies – Not going to lie, we’ve done this far too many times that I care to admit in this week alone, haha!
  • Take a family photo – This may seem like it’s not tradition worthy but you’d be surprised how much we take photos of our kids and not enough photos of every member of the family, altogether… smiling.

Whatever your tradition is, capture the memories and enjoy them every year!

Un Besito,

Rocío
