My New Mom Fitness Routine

I wasn’t the most excited person to get back to working out after having a baby. It’s like my mind was telling me it was time to “snap back” but my body still felt sluggish and tired most of the time. Sometime around March, I made promises to both my husband and my sister that we would all (yes y’all… it’s a team effort) get back in shape in time for my brother’s wedding in the Fall. We’ve got quite a few months to go so I feel like sticking to a realistic routine and workout schedule works best for me! Currently, I’m working out 1-2 times a week. I know it might not seem like much to some people but that’s a LOT in comparison to how I started the year! (That New Years Resolution to work out regularly never quite stuck back then). So let me share with you all what I’ve been doing to work out in a way that keeps me healthy, back in shape, on my time and my terms!

Before I moved to Baton Rouge, I was obsessed with ClassPass! If you haven’t heard of ClassPass, it’s a company that provides access to different fitness classes (think yoga, bare, boxing, cycling, strength training… you name it!) through a monthly subscription service! Memberships are month to month so there are no contracts tied to any specific gym or studio – you can visit as many times as your heart desires! But it’s not just fitness classes; you can book in-studio classes, digital classes, and even salon & spa appointments! Monthly memberships start as low as $15 a month and you can change, freeze, or cancel your plan at any time… at your convenience! (Right now, though, you can sign up to get ONE WHOLE MONTH FOR FREE!!)

Okay wait, I feel like I just raved about ClassPass without fully telling you my story! So when I was living in New Orleans, I would regularly book my favorite barre studio classes through ClassPass. I was the MOST in shape I had ever been in my life! Barre will really tone all of the muscles in all of the right places! When I moved to Baton Rouge, though, I had to cancel my membership because at the time, they hadn’t featured their virtual or on demand workouts yet and there weren’t any studios in my town that were available through ClassPass. Of course, the pandemic sort of changed all that! When I found out that I could take my favorite barre classes from my favorite studio in New Orleans VIRTUALLY, I signed right back up! I was impressed to find some updates to the app that made it easier to get back into a fitness routine that was right for me!

If you’re looking for a specific type of workout, say barre for example, you can filter your search to JUST barre in your area. You can view what businesses are offering in-studio or virtual classes on specific days and times and book your class with credits through your membership! If you are the type of person that needs to feel out different gyms or classes to find the right fit, you can “book around” like I used to until I found a place that made me feel good about working out! When booking your favorite classes, there is no obligation to sign up at that studio – everything is done through ClassPass!

You can use ClassPass either through the app or on your computer. And as far as your membership credits go, you don’t have to worry about them going to waste if you don’t meet your fitness or wellness goal for the month. You are able to roll over up to the total number of credits in your upcoming plan every month! Now, if you aren’t in the mood to go looking around for classes in your area, you can try one of their on-demand video or audio workouts – no specific credits spent on these! On-Demand workouts are included in your membership.

So for me, I’m a sucker for barre classes. I’m sure you gathered that already – haha! But I love how ClassPass introduces me to other types of workouts, like boxing, cycling or even CrossFit! I took a CrossFit class at Crescent City CrossFit for the very first time earlier this month and I LOVED IT! It surprised me so much! I didn’t think I would like it but after completing my workout, I was ready to sign up for round two! If you’re ever in the New Orleans area, check them out and try to book a class with Coach Gabino! I’ll link their gym here, but if you want to get your month free, CLICK HERE!

I typically do one barre class a week, and then add an on-demand video on another day! The great thing about ClassPass is that the variety is endless and no two classes are the same so I’m never bored. I pick times that are convenient for me and my schedule (or should I say convenient for my baby’s schedule). If you follow me on Instagram, I’ll share different workouts from different classes throughout the month! I’d love for you to join me on one of the virtual classes I take! How awesome would that be?!

I can’t wait to “snap back” by Fall and feel my best for the wedding! Now that I’ve got my body back to myself, I feel excited to take on the fitness world!

Un Besito,
