Covid Got Me In The New Year

I got a tickle in my throat on Friday (New Years Eve) that I thought was either allergies. My husband had just taken a Covid test a few days after Christmas and his results came back as negative so I had no reason to get tested myself. The weather had also been at it’s usual 4 seasons in 4 days this time of year. Saturday rolled around I had a slight cough. Nothing heavy, or phlegmy, or deep. Just a little cough here and here. I carried on the first day of the new year baking cookies (a new hobby of mine) and getting ready for our first date night of 2022.

When I woke up Sunday, the first thought to cross my mind was “shit, I have Covid.”

My body was aching, my sore throat felt worse, and the cough hadn’t gone away. With our baby girl staying at her grandma’s house, I told my husband that I needed to go get tested. Testing was hard to find in our area and the only place offering PCR or Rapid tests was an Urgent Care in a nearby town. My husband drove me to the Urgent Care and waited with me. After waiting in line for a little over an hour, I was finally able to check in. Then I had to wait in my car to be triaged and admitted in a room.

Before getting the call for triage, I got the call from my mom. “I tested positive for Covid.”

That couldn’t be right. She had just tested a few days ago and it was negative. Lance had just tested days ago and it was negative. He decided to test again. When I was called back for triage, he came with me and we tested together.

Lance’s test was positive, mine was negative. Our doctor told us that because of my symptoms, we can assume that I was positive too, and chances were our baby was as well. We were told to quarantine together.

It’s not how I wanted to start off the New Year. But alas, here we are. I’m officially 10 days in since the start of my symptoms. I am finally feeling more myself – enough to write this blog post update. Thank goodness Lance has retested and is negative. I’ll be taking Penelope to get tested tomorrow and I just pray that she’s negative as well. I’ll be testing myself once my symptoms have gone completely before going outside again.

It’s been a wild week. All I can say now is, I don’t want Covid again.

Un Besito,
