Find A Sitter and Sip – Hot Toddy Cocktail

My husband and I are cocktail fans. We enjoy the good spirits and take interest in mixology! Are we mixologists ourselves? Absolutely not. But do we have fun pretending and trying? Without a doubt!

Find A Sitter and Sip is a new series I’ll be sharing on Instagram, where we do exactly what the name says… We find a sitter for our baby, and sip during our alone time on a special cocktail (or two)! We’ll be trying out a different cocktail recipe every month and sharing the steps so that you can find a sitter and sip for yourself! I mean, we’re actual parents out here. This parent life is TOUGH! You deserve a cocktail, responsibly of course!

THE HOT TODDY

I wanted to share the Hot Toddy Recipe with you all earlier in the month, but with Covid happening… all of my content creating was sort of put on hold until we got better. The irony though! A Hot Toddy is not only a specialty cocktail to enjoy but it actually is a well known remedy for the cold or flu. Can you believe that? I guess it’s only fitting that we share how to make a Hot Toddy with you all because I hear there’s a virus going around. You know… the Rona! Not only that but it’s been cold and rainy/snowy in most of the country, so this Hot Toddy will definitely be a nice warm pick-me-up for the season!

Now, this is not our “personal recipe”! We found this recipe on SpaceShipsAndLaserBeams.com and after trying different Hot Toddy’s, this one seems to be our favorite!

Here’s what you’ll need to make a Hot Toddy:

  • 1 cup of Hot Cinnamon Spice Tea (the tea isn’t necessary, but does give the drink a great kick in flavor! Don’t have tea? Just use 1 cup of boiling water)
  • 1 oz of Lemon Juice
  • 2 oz of your favorite Bourbon (we used Bulleit Bourbon)
  • 2-3 drops of Bitters
  • 1 Tablespoon of Honey

For Garnish (and extra flavor) – Try not to keep garnishes in for too long, though. It can give you more flavor than you may care for.

  • Slice of Lemon
  • Cloves (poke them in your lemon slice for easy removal from your cocktail!)
  • Cinnamon Stick
  • Star Anise

Mocktail Version

If you would rather have a non-alcoholic version of a Hot Toddy, do not add the bourbon or bitters. Definitely add spiced tea of sorts like cinnamon or ginger! (This is the one we used!)

I hope you’ll enjoy this new series! I’ve got a whole roster of cocktails lined up for this year so get your mixers and shakers ready because it’s going to be a 2022 filled with high spirits!

Un Besito,

Rocío
