Find A Sitter And Sip – King Cake Martini

My husband and I are back with another cocktail video to add to the new series “Find A Sitter and Sip“. In case you’re out of the loop, this new series is one in which we share a different cocktail recipe with you each month. Since here in Louisiana we’re big on Mardi Gras, I figured it was only right to share a delicious King Cake Martini recipe with you all! So find a sitter for your baby, take some notes, gather your ingredients, and let’s get to sippin’!

King Cake Martini

King Cakes are a big thing during Mardi Gras season. It’s tradition for most Louisianians to have King Cake starting on January 6th, 3 Kings Day! It’s also the start of carnival season. While there are many different flavors and types of king cakes, here’s a Martini that has all of the familiar notes of a King Cake!

It’s also a REALLY simple recipe with just 3 simple ingredients. If you want to get fancy with it… a little food coloring is involved.

Here’s what you’ll need to make a King Cake Martini:

You can buy Mardi Gras Sanding Sugar here, or if you’d like to DIY this colorful sanding sugar garnish:

  • Put a few teaspoons of sugar in 3 ziplock bags
  • Add a few drops of one gel food coloring to the bag. Do this for all colors: purple, green, and gold
  • Mix until the color has been well blended.
  • Dip rim of the glass in water
  • Dip the rim of the glass in the colored sugar! (We poured the sugar in a hollow plate so all colors we laid out)

After prepping your martini glasses with your colorful sanding sugar, add your ingredients to a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well and strain into your martini glasses. You can top your King Cake Martini off with a sprinkle of cinnamon.
