Sheraton New Orleans Hotel Review

Ever since moving to Baton Rouge, I get excited at any chance I get to visit New Orleans again. Now, with a new family of my own, I make any excuse to take a trip to the Big Easy – and Staycations are without a doubt my favorite way to visit.

Staycations in New Orleans are a fun way for my husband and I to feel like we’re getting away without traveling too far and being back home in time and refreshed for work on Mondays. The other day we realized that we haven’t taken the time to plan a Staycation with our baby girl, Penelope, yet! Having a baby shouldn’t stop us from wanting to step out of our day to day routine and explore a little, so after the Sheraton New Orleans reached out about an opportunity to host us, we gladly accepted… and here we are! Recapping a wonderful stay at this family-friendly hotel for a memorable staycation!

When we finally arrived, we were met with a delectable plate of sweets that Penelope thoroughly enjoyed (those macrons never stood a chance)! There was a bottle of wine that Lance and I enjoyed on our last night, some milk for our baby girl, beads, a Mardi Gras mask, and the sweetest welcome note from the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel team!

I was hoping to check in far earlier than we actually did but with a last minute change in Sweet Pea’s ear surgery met with Baton Rouge traffic, we didn’t arrive until about 7pm to which we had a yummy Pelican Bar dinner delivered to our room. Burgers, Pizza and Gumbo made for the start of fantastic staycation! The view from our room was special at night…. but breathtaking in the morning!

A quick run down of the hotel, the Four-Diamond Sheraton New Orleans Hotel is located on historic Canal Street adjacent to the French Quarter and steps from the Central Business District, Bourbon Street and the riverfront. The family-friendly and pet-friendly hotel features refined guest rooms and suites with plush bedding, spacious work areas and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the French Quarter and Mississippi River.

The hotel features 1,110 guestrooms, including Sheraton Club Level rooms and 53 suites, which reflect the distinct flavor of the Big Easy with bold and stylish décor and spectacular views of the Mississippi River.

Our hosted stay at the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel placed us in the Executive Suite for two nights. The suite felt like a modern-day urban retreat! From the king bedroom and to the parlor on the other side of the dual flat screen partition with ample storage, we felt truly blessed at the opportunity to call this home for the weekend!

The Sheraton New Orleans hotel also has an expansive fitness center, two onsite restaurants including Roux Bistro located on the second floor and Pelican Bar found in the main lobby. There’s also an on-site Starbucks which made for happy mornings and 105,000 square feet of flexible venue space. Guest services provided so much assistance with our first staycation experience as a family of 3! We were brought a rollaway crib which made Penelope’s sleep routine an easy transition in our home away from home. And everyone that we came across at the Hotel made us feel welcome and at home (and all put a smile on Sweet Pea’s face).

The hotel provides the perfect base for guests looking for an unmatched downtown escape as it offers seamless access to notable NOLA points of interest, including nearby restaurants and bars, NOLA’s famed House of Blues, the award-winning New Orleans Convention Center, Harrah’s Casino, Audubon Aquarium of the Americas, Outlet Collection at River Walk and Smoothie King Center, among many others.

While there are many family-friendly attractions in New Orleans within walking distance to the hotel, we spent the majority of our Saturday experiencing Peek-A-Boo at the Zoo located uptown which is just a short Street Car ride from the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel. We have the Safari Membership so there was no way we were passing up the chance for Penelope to have an epic first TRUE halloween event experience!

After a fun filled day at the Audubon Zoo, my parent’s offered to take P for the evening so Lance and I could unwind and have some alone time (which is rare these days raising a toddler)! After having already experienced meals at both the Pelican Bar and Roux Bistro, we decided to venture out and have dinner at one of the restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. One of our all time favorites is Justine which is just a block and a half away!

We’re big foodies so here are our top 5 restaurants within walking distance of the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel that you won’t want to miss:

  • Justine (3 minute walk)
  • Criollo (3 minute walk)
  • Domenica (5 minute walk)
  • August (4 minute walk)
  • Ruby Slipper for Brunch! (2 minute walk)

Honestly, by the time we got back to the hotel, we were beat! We even decided to bring our dessert back to the suite – to which I realized we forgot our take home utensils so we wound up using Penelope’s baby spoon. Hey… use what you’ve got!

Because we were so exhausted from the day before, we called the front desk the next morning for an extended checkout and they happily granted us with a few more hours of Zzzz’s! After waking up, we realized how much we missed our Sweet pea and we were off to scoop her up and head back home to the Red Stick!

All in all, this Staycation experience was memorable and we can’t wait to visit the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel again very soon! Maybe even bring our fur babies Lexi and Toula next time!

Un Besito,
