Wedding Hairstyles for Curly Hair

I have been asked on several occasions how I wore my hair on my wedding day and if I have any other suggestions on hairstyles that would be fitting for a special occasion such as a wedding or prom, or really any other formal event! All I did on my wedding day was swoop all of my hair to one side and pin it in place with a beautiful headpiece (much like the photo above).Your natural curls can be elegant, so don’t be so quick to grab the flat iron! Here are a few things to remember when thinking about your curly hairstyle for an important day.

Accessorize Your Curls

Adding a headpiece to your hair will not only add a touch of drama or elegance, but it’s also a good way to up the elegance to any hair style. Here is one that I found on Amazon that looks very similar to the one I used on my wedding day!

Have Fun With What You Know

I think every curly girl is well-versed in messy buns. Rocking a messy bun on your big day might actually look intentional (because it is)! The right accessory will complete the look! You can add a veil just below the bun, or add a beautiful headpiece when a veil isn’t used!

Half Up Half Down Trend

This is such a traditional look and one that is sometimes underrated or forgotten when it comes to hairstyles. Just pick up the top half of your curls and tie it with a hair tie. You can accessorize by adding a beautiful headband to match the occasion or use a decorated pin!

Chignon For the Win

A Chignon is one of my go-to’s and I’ve actually mentioned it here in my blog before! It’s such an easy hairstyle to achieve and can be decorated with any accessory you find that fits your style! All you need to do is twist the pieces framing your face and gather the hair into a low ponytail. Then roll the rest of the hair in the direction of your head and finally, secure it in place with bobby pins!

A Royal Updo

This is a hairstyle that reminds me a lot of my mom on her wedding day because she wore her curls almost this exact way! Find a headband that you love, one that matches your dress! Place that headband over your head. Then twist sections of your hair, tuck them into the headband, and pull through. Do that until you have reached the back of your head. Finally, twist and tuck the hair in the pocket you have formed in the headband and you have a beautifully elegant formal updo that took less than 5 minutes!

Remember, if you have any messy pieces that you’d like to hide, just tuck them underneath another curl! Your curls can be elegant and worn on your special day. Take some time out to just sit in front of a mirror and get to know your curls and what it can do! Play around with bobby pins, headbands and headpieces and you’ll be sure to find a style that is perfect for your big day! Need more tips?
